Gcinumzi has more than 24 years of professional experience in various fields and he currently runs a few business ventures ranging from Leadership & Strategy Consulting, Hospitality, Transport & Logistics, among others. He is an accomplished leader in the public sector with a solid Environmental Management background and has worked for the National Department of Environmental Affairs and the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), among others. Gcinumzi is the founding Chief Executive Officer of the Buffalo City Metropolitan Development Agency (BCMDA, an economic development and investment promotion agency of the Buffalo City Metro Municipality, Eastern Cape.

Gcinumzi is also a Certified Director (Cert. Dir.) a designation awarded by the Institute of Directors South Africa (IoDSA) to qualified Corporate Governance practitioners based on their stringent training and assessment criteria. He currently serves in four boards of entities ranging from Economic Development Agencies to Higher Education Institutions and serves as a Chairperson on two of those institutions.

In addition, Gcinumzi is a Harvard South Africa Fellow, a Ford Foundation Fellow, an Abe Bailey Bursar with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degreed from the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) and a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Environment & Society from the University of Pretoria
